SLEDDING

Sledding during the snowy season is a blast! It is something everyone in the family can do. In Utah there are so many places to sled. Of course it is best when the snow is new and not too icy. One place our family loves to go is up American Fork Canyon to a place called Mutual Dell. It is great for the young sledders as well as the more mature ones. In most cases it costs per carload to go up into American Fork Canyon but if you tell the Ranger that you are heading to Mutual Dell than it is free.
Mutual Dell
is a beautiful camp.
(Restrooms with flush toilets are available at various locations around the Dell
.) It is located at mile marker 13.5 on State Route SR92 and is about 6500 feet in elevation. It sets on 30 acres on permit from the US Forest Service and is surrounded by the Uinta National Forest.
It is open year round, but is closed on Sundays.
Another great sledding spot is Tibble Fork, it too is up American Fork Canyon. It is for the more experienced sledders. Soon after entering the canyon, you'll reach the Forest Service toll station ($6 per vehicle). Approximately 5 miles later, turn left at a fork, following signs to "Granite Flat Campground / Tibble Fork Reservoir".
Make sure you bring plenty of snacks and hot chocolate when going sledding. You and your crew will work up quite an appetite!
Some of our favorites are
French Bread Sandwiches
: A large French Bread loaf cut in half lengthwise, filled with meats, cheeses, lettuce and tomato. Then sliced into individual portions.
Easy to grab even with gloves on!
Puppy Chow: 1 cup Peanut Butter
1 package Chocolate Chips (semi sweet)
1 cube of Butter
1 large box of Rice Chex
1 box of Powdered Sugar
Melt Peanut Butter, Chocolate Chips and Butter in a microwave safe bowl. Pour over Chex Cereal, mix together. Dump into a paper bag with the powder sugar and shake, shake, shake.
Now to eat these they will have to take off their gloves but so worth it!

And of course a big thermos full of your favorite Hot Chocolate.
Have SNOW much fun!!!
